Many BAMF members (ExComm, original members, committee chairs – description in the by-laws) met at Pracna on Main this past Thursday to hash out priorities for the club in 2013. Here’s a general timeline infographic Tyler put together based on conversation at this meeting:
And here are the actual notes:
Present: Grant W., Tyler B., Matt P., Casey H., Tim S., Andrew N., Nate G., Aaron D., Nick P., Steve M., Brendan K., Eric C.
Possibly the best-attended BAMF meeting ever.
- Financial Report
- Matt provided a full report to attendees – over $400 in the account
- Direction of Club for 2013
- Presidential candidate Nathan Gunter is running on a platform that places increased focus on and organization around community outreach by the club such as food drives
- Continued focus on our core goals of 1) experiments 2) marketing the club 3) running an annual competition and 4) sensory education and/or BJCP certifications
- Special Events for 2013
- WINTER – High gravity competition and 2012 member party this coming Saturday 1/19, 12 noon at North Loop Wine & Spirits (please note – no good way to warm or cook food here – croc pots!!)
- Last names starting with A-M = bring appetizer food
- Last names starting with N-Z = bring entrée food
- If you have something you really want to bring and it conflicts with the aforementioned rules, bring whatever you want
- WINTER – Barrel project round two (Casey’s four barrels)
- SPRING – Yeast experiment: Nate revealed he is now interning as an assistant brewer at NorthGate, which should help solidify plans for the yeast experiment in the coming months (where we all pitch different yeasts into the same wort brewed at NorthGate, fermenting and packaging separately then doing a tasting to see how different yeasts affect the exact same wort)
- SUMMER – Low gravity competition & club BBQ
- SUMMER – Single hop experiment round two
- SUMMER – Northeast farmers market presence
- FALL – Homebrew food pairing club fundraiser dinner
- WINTER – High gravity competition and 2012 member party this coming Saturday 1/19, 12 noon at North Loop Wine & Spirits (please note – no good way to warm or cook food here – croc pots!!)
- Club fundraising events for 2013(Farmers Market, Competition, Beer Pairings Dinners)
- BYO sales discounted to club members below list subscription cost
- Sales of items at the Northeast farmers market
- Spent grain dog treats

- Barrel project update
- Looking to fill the saison and flanders on Saturday 2/9
- Nick sent out saison recipe to participants in that barrel on 1/11/13
- Other recipe owners should send out their recipes very soon as well
- Looking to fill the wee and RIS on Saturday 2/16
- Looking to fill the saison and flanders on Saturday 2/9
- Yeast experiment update (with Northgate)
- Going to happen fo shizzle!
- Likely happening in March. Nate is interning there now as a brewer and will coordinate.
- This experiment is great because all you need to do to participate is have a carboy sanitized and delivered to the brewery on pickup date, then pitch the strain of yeast you’ll sign up to use
- Participants will collectively pay for the malt and hops purchased and used by NorthGate to provide us this wort
- Meeting Locations for upcoming meetings
- February: Harriet is very likely, probably on a Wednesday and will be more of a social event. Backup = normal location, different room in the basement
- March: NB-MPLS – unsure on details but may work
- April: Steel Toe could happen, would likely be more of a social event
- Logistics of upcoming Club meeting/ January Strong Beer Comp/ Food/ Awards(?)
- Grant to send out High Gravity competition and 2012 member party RSVP where members will also be able to sign up for the competition and list what they’re bringing for potluck
- Be prepared to bring six 12 oz. bottles per entry (please keep bottles as ambiguous/normal/innocuous as possible – AKA don’t put your competition beer in a silly blue bottle)
- Awards – didn’t talk about this but we have some leftover from the Big River Brewfest – awards will be very informal as they were for the low gravity competition
- Grant to send out High Gravity competition and 2012 member party RSVP where members will also be able to sign up for the competition and list what they’re bringing for potluck
- Organized Happy Hours/Networking events
- Taproom takeovers!
- Much discussion and considerable enthusiasm, no firm conclusions drawn or committee owner defined…
- Vector logo
- Grant got Steve A. to agree to do our logo in vector so we can get a new sign printed by Tim S.
- Communications / tech update
- Grant explained his and Shawn L.’s idea to use Stack Overflow for a forum experience rather than having homebrewing-centric conversations exist in the Google Group, leaving the Google Group to be used for coordination and non-homebrew-specific questions like “what did you think of Dangerous Man’s tap room?”
- Grant to setup a Twitter handle and begin tweeting as the club for increased search visibility
- Cards
- Bring your $20 2013 membership fee to the party on 1/19 at North Loop Wine & Spirits 12pm-5pm – Cards will be there for distribution!
- Shirts
- Tyler put $1,400 on his own credit card to get us shirts. Please bring what you owe him to the party on 1/19 if you signed up for a shirt (you owe anywhere from $28-$35 per shirt – consult the Google doc where you signed up to be sure)
- Recap
- Current President Nesbitt will send a 2012 recap and 2013 plan directly to all members’ email addresses to ensure they receive the email and it doesn’t just go into a digest or so they don’t have to go to the Google Group to read it
