Attendance: Matt, Nick, Nate, Tyler
Yesterday four brave BAMFers braved the weather to unite at Pracna to discuss club details. Read the notes below to see updates on the February meeting/barrel fill, as well as some of the upcoming club opportunities and plans.
- Taproom Takeover – Dangerous Man
- Friday February 8th marked the NBA’s first Taproom Takeover. About 20 club members descended on Dangerous Man to imbibe and enjoy the destination taproom. W e even had a raffle for an amazing prize. Thanks to Dangerous Man for hosting us, and giving us a shoutout during the night. We’ll be back soon!
- Future Taproom Takeovers will include Indeed, Summit, 612Brew and a slew of other places. Expect a “firm” schedule of all of them to be presented at the February meeting. We plan on doing more raffles, maybe charging for tickets so we can afford to give away something cool.
- Barrel Project 2.0 update
- Saison barrel being filled THIS Saturday, Feb 16th at noon. If you can’t make it in person, you need to get your beer to Aaron’s place by then. I’m sure there will be chatter on the Google Groups.
- February club meeting – SATURDAY Feb 23rd – DeBoer Cellars
- There are two variables on the February meeting. 1) It’s on a Saturday. 2) It’s at Aaron’s place. Why? We have barrels to fill! This is going to be like our normal meetings with the addition of some mass siphoning. With all the work to be done, the formal part will be abbreviated to 1 hour. We will also be doing a pot luck for the day, as well as grilling. The jockey box will be on site if anyone wants to bring a keg or two. Please sign up for food here
- Meeting Logistics/Agenda:
- 1 hour formal meeting – This meeting is for all club members, prospective members, and any interested parties.
- Club introductions, welcome to new members
- 2013 club schedule dissemination
- Q&A
- education topic: Barrels with Nick P.
- Fill the Clean Barrels
- Break – Q&A
- Fill the Sour Barrel
- 1 hour formal meeting – This meeting is for all club members, prospective members, and any interested parties.
- March 21st Meeting – Northern Brewer Classroom
- For the second month in a row, we do not have access to the normal ESNS space as it’s in use for tax prep. We do return to our normal third Thursday 7:00-9:00pm, and we will be meeting in the Northern Brewer Classroom at the S. Lyndale location. We will follow our normal meeting schedule, and our educational topic will be GRAINS with the assistance of the NB staff, and a Specialty Malt experiment tasting.
- April Meeting
- We return to ESNS for business as usual.
- Upcoming Club Opportunities
- Nate is talking to Summit about getting the club out to the brewery for a tour and some education. This will be listed as a Taproom Takeover, and will not be replacing a normal meeting.
- Spring Ale Fest: We’re trying to get involved with this Nordeast Minneapolis Beer Fest in April. Hopefully there will be an update soon. Tyler is spearheading this, so if you have any connections, pass them his way.
- Restaurant Depot: As a non-profit LLC, we have access to a membership with the Restaurant Depot for mass food products. Nathan is getting us a membership. We don’t have any solid plans for usage, but it will be an option for us.
- Club Shirts
- The extra NBA Brewers shirts are now club property. If you didn’t order one, we still have a handful left in L, XL and XXL for $35. If you ordered a shirt and haven’t paid for it, you still owe Tyler.
- Club only Lagunitas-Sponsored Competition
- Lagunitas is sponsoring a Club vs Club competition. As a club, we need to determine one American Ale that will represent our us. The winning beer will be the inspiration for a beer brewed by Lagunitas, with the winner getting flown out to the brewery for the brew.
- Rules:
- American Ale yeast only, no fruit herbs or spices
- 6-12 oz bottles for club judging; the winner will need an additional 6-12 oz bottles for Lagunitas.
- Bottles should be standard long necks free of printing or any identifying marks.
- This open to any 2013 dues-paying Nordeast Brewers Alliance Member
- Judging
- There are very few constraints for this competition. Entrants will need to bring their beer to (location tbd) to be judged prior to the club meeting on April 18th. Beers will be grouped in accordance to the closest BJCP style (IPA, IIPA, American Ale, etc). The groups will be judged and the winner of each group will move on to the BOS to determine the overall winner. This will resemble a standard BJCP judging, but will be a bit less formal as there are no specific style guidelines required.
- Final judging will be May 3rd.
- We’ll send out a registration form when it gets closer to the date.
