December 20th meeting recap

We had a great meeting to round out 2012! Phenomenal year for the club. Looking forward to the potluck and high-gravity competition at North Loop in January for all members (you can bring a +1). Here’s what we discussed at the meeting:

    • Robbie D. has secured us a club 10% discount at Elevated Beer, Wine & Spirits in South Minneapolis

  • On Tap WITH THE NEW CLUB-OWNED JOCKEY BOX: the offerings from Learn to Homebrew Day (Nov 3) – Thanks again to Northern Brewer!

    • Holiday Red- The DTs

  • Discussed gelatin, process, use while dry hopping (does it pull out dry hop flavor? Doesn’t pull out flavor in Furious kit but there are 8 oz. dry hops there)
  • 2013 Membership – $20 dues are payable at the January meeting or now if you like.  New membership cards are coming in January.
  • January meeting/party/competition reminder  – Jan 19th @ North Loop (12 noon – 5pm)
    • This event is for all members who paid dues in 2012, and all new members who want to pay in January
    • Free parking around back for all attendees

  • Education: “Let’s get wet” – Andrew W talks about water

  • Barrel Project 2.0 – Recipe finalization needs to happen very soon as we should probably start brewing these in January
  1. Rye Saison with brett – ferment clean and dump Nick P’s brett strain into barrel
  2. Flanders
  3. RIS  – with a recap of Partigyle Brewing (see Method 5)
    1. One uses special B – use Burton ale to bring out the fruit
    2. One uses coffee malt and cold press, dark chocolate at flameout – use Cali-Ale yeast to get chocolate and coffee to shine through
    3. Half and half on the recipe
    4. Go to IS tab and fill in the yellow
  4. Wee Heavy – all clean
