July Education Topic: Hefeweizen

For the next instance of the Explore-A-Style series, next week we will focus on hefeweizen, a traditional German wheat beer. A few club members brewed up examples and we will discuss what makes something a hefeweizen and what to look in sensory analysis.

The meeting is at East Side Neighborhood Services on Thu Jul 18 7-9pm. If weather permits, we will meet outside in the pavilion behind the parking lot.

Brewers of all levels are welcome and encouraged to join! We aim for education topics and club events for brewers of all levels — aspirational through expert — for engagement, community, and brewing support! Please stop by or reach out. Everyone is welcome!

July 2024 Events

This month we are planning a group bike ride to the Taproom Takeover social hour at Back Channel, an education topic about hefeweizen at the monthly meeting, and the summer party with low-gravity club competition.

If you have been on the fence about joining a club event, this is a great month to do so! Reach out to the club if you have any questions, otherwise just show up and we will make sure your tasting glass remains full.

Cheers! 🍻

June Education Topic: Steeping Malts

Malt being the foundation of beer, the education topic this month will investigate that through a malt steeping education topic at the meeting next week. Brewers of all levels are encouraged to stop by and see what this is all about!

Thu Jun 20, 7-9pm, East Side Neighborhood Services
If weather allows, we will meet in the pavilion behind the parking lot.

June 2024 Events

This month the club is running our #SourTimes homebrew competition, heading to Saint Paul to meet at Urban Growler for some social time, and setting up a malt steeping education topic at the monthly meeting. Brewers of all levels are welcome to join us any time and maybe learn something, too.

See you there!

May Education: Off-Flavor Spike Kit

Next week learn about off-flavors and how to prevent them in your beer. We are brewing up a clean, straightforward beer to add vials of mysterious liquids to replicate what bad beer tastes like so we can identify and prevent those mistakes!

The meetings are at ESNS in Northeast Minneapolis and we love to see new folks join the meetings. Whether you have been brewing for a handful of years or just planning out your first handful of batches, come join the revelry and education next week.

Cheers! 🍻

May 2024 Events

We have a couple events this month:
– a #TaproomTakeover social hour at Wandering Leaf tomorrow
– a group brew for #BigBrew day on Saturday
– a wort rally at Trove the following weekend
– an education topic on off-flavors at the monthly meeting later

Come join the club at one of our upcoming events and talk about beer, brewing, and fermentation science. Brewers of all levels are welcome. Bring some homebrew if you have it; bring a tasting glass regardless.

March Education: Making Mead

The education next week is the process for making mead. Mark will show off his process, which will lead up to another education topic this summer about tasting these batches.

Brewers of all levels are welcome to come, mead-makers, beer-focused, or any other fermented beverage connoisseur.

Next week: Thu Mar 21, 7-9pm, East Side Neighborhood Services (probably lower level again)
