A couple November notes: The NBA competition opens at NOON CENTRAL today, so keep an eye on NBABrewComp.com for more detail. Next week we will meet up at Nine Mile Brewing in Bloomington for a Taproom Takeover social hour. Later in the month, Ilya from BSG HandCraft will be by to talk about brewing with cereals (unmalted grains) and enzymes.

In addition to some questions from the club provided ahead of time, this will surely be an interesting and educational topic. All levels of brewer, meadmaker, cider enthusiast, and beyond are welcome to join.

How does yeast work? The education topic this month is zymurgetically focused to talk about just this topic.
Bring your finished yeast samples (homebrew beer and such) to the meeting — or at least tasting glasses to sample from others.
This month we are visiting our friends at Trove brewing in Burnsville, discussing yeast and its role in brewing, and planning for the upcoming Brew For Good event.

Sunday, October 6 is Brew For Good, the homebrew-only beer festival at Northern Stacks event space attached to the Forgotten Star brewery. This is a fantastic fundraiser for ESNS and a great way to share your beer with and get feedback from the public.
The October meeting education topic will feature Five Star (the makers of StarSan, PBW, and more) where they will answer our cleaning and sanitation questions.
For the next instance of the Explore-A-Style series, next week we will focus on hefeweizen, a traditional German wheat beer. A few club members brewed up examples and we will discuss what makes something a hefeweizen and what to look in sensory analysis.
The meeting is at East Side Neighborhood Services on Thu Jul 18 7-9pm. If weather permits, we will meet outside in the pavilion behind the parking lot.
